Anaesthetic Nursing Program
This was introduced in 2021 to help cover the deficiency that the country is facing in terms of anaesthesia. It targets the Nurses and Clinical officers to familiarize them with the new principals and different technique of anaesthesia and how to help our patients if required.
The first batch was 12 trainees of which 10 graduated and now in the class are second batch which are 13 students who are finishing this August.
Background of the Tutorship (Health Personnel Education)
The training of tutors locally was a result of increased number of Health Science Institutions (HSIs) in South Sudan but with limited trained Health Personnel. The high number of trained tutors in the Country is an opportunity to phase out the over reliance on international tutors whose expenses are high and short term, for that reason the Health Personnel Education (Tutorship) was introduced in Country.
The tutorship programme started at the College of Physicians and Surgeons on 30th July 2019 and with the training of teachers from all the Health science-training institutions in South Sudan. The training commenced with the first batch in 2019, and to this day, we have the fifth (5th) batch in class mid-way through the first semester. The HPE (Tutorship) programme has so far trained 65 tutors; they are all doing well in their respective HSIs.
The HPE Programme has so far trained four batches.
